Orders, not clicks

You move the squad as a unit and issue commands at a button press. It plays in real time with a pause, so it is tense rather than fiddly.

The hive adapts

Make noise and the aliens change tactics and start hunting you. Every action raises the alert level on the whole map, so a loud mission makes the next one worse.

The map remembers

Weld doors, set motion trackers, carve out safe zones — and they stay between deployments. Marines carry injuries and trauma forward, and dead is dead.
